Facts about the historic building

The building has had various functions in recent centuries. The building was used as a garage for horse carriages at the end of the 19th century. In the Tulp apartment, the rings on which the horses were locked are still hanging in the walls.

From 1929 until mid-World War II, the first Ferrari garage in the Netherlands was in the building. The original loading door from that time is still preserved. You don’t seeit, but he is still there; hidden behind the ceiling in apartment Tulp.

After the war, various printershops were housed in the building until May 2016. Haarlem has always been a book printers city. Haarlem still claims that Laurens Janszoon Coster, a fifteenth-century knight in Haarlem, is the inventor of book printing. You can find his statue on the Grote Markt in Haarlem.
